MN-26-11 MANI - Max Niederköppern - Painting Organic Dark Maroon - Cell by Cell - Detail 3

This painting plays with dark maroon, organic shapes set against a pearl colored background. Vertical sequences recall the structure of written language. Each individual form remains open to interpretation: some appear as botanical fragments, while others suggest symbols or pictograms. Together, they resemble fragments of an ancient text — incomplete, eroded, and gradually worn away by time. Like traces left behind on a weathered surface, the forms suggest a language that can no longer be fully read or understood.

Acrylic on canvas | 40 cm x 50 cm

As in my previous works, the shapes are created by allowing fluid acrylic paint to settle naturally on the canvas. The paint's surface tension produces smooth, rounded edges and slightly raised contours, giving each form a distinct physical presence. Liquefaction of the acrylic

brightens the color, leading to a shift from bordeaux to dark maroon in the drying process.
