Color Studies Cell by Cell - Cherry Blossoms and a Summer Breeze - Max Niederköppern

Hi there!

Although being a huge fan of painting complexity and abundance, I´ll try a new approach with the following pieces by focussing more on clarity and essence.

Over time, much of my work has been shaped by many layered structures and abundant compositions. With this new style, I would like to explore a different direction: the works are reduced in structure, with simpler forms, fewer overlapping layers and a stronger focus on atmosphere and the interaction of color itself.

As I´m still exploring different styles and techniques, this is a kind of color studies: capturing subtle shifts in color and arrange them in organically connected cell-like forms.

The Colors of Cherry Blossoms

Soft shades of pale rose, blush pink, muted burgundy, warm ivory and deep wine red are balanced with subdued moss green, sage and soft grey-green tones. These warmer areas are contrasted by cooler passages of misty blue-grey, charcoal and softened black, creating a shifting rhythm across the surface. The overall palette moves between warmth and restraint, density and openness, while maintaining a calm and cohesive atmosphere.

The Colors of a Summer Breeze

This composition brings together a wide range of hues — soft lavender and pale blue tones, muted sage and olive greens, warm yellows, light peach and beige variations, as well as more saturated pink, orange, and deep red accents. Rather than functioning independently, the colors are arranged in a way that allows them to continuously respond to and influence one another across the surface.
